What is AlarmKit?
What is AlarmKit? Apple's developer documentation describes it as a way to schedule prominent alarms and countdowns to help people manage their time. In plain terms, it is a system framework that lets a third-party app ask iPhone to ring an alarm, instead of the app trying to do it by itself in the background.
Because the alarm is handled by the system, it is meant to be treated as time-critical. The app also needs your permission before it can schedule alarms, so you stay in control. You can also review that permission in your iPhone settings later.
Why AlarmKit matters for waking up
Before AlarmKit, apps had to use workarounds such as notifications or background audio, and those could be silenced by the mute switch or a Focus mode. An alarm scheduled through the system framework can ring when the app is closed and the phone is locked. That is the difference between an alarm you trust and one you keep double-checking.
AlarmKit also gives the alarm a proper system look, so the alarm screen appears the way you expect from the built-in Clock app. For people who rely on an alarm for a shift, a flight or an early class, that predictability is the main point. It is also why the framework is a good fit for custom sounds, which is where custom alarm sounds come in.
How AlarmiFex relates
AlarmiFex on iPhone uses AlarmKit. Once you allow alarms, your alarm can ring with the app closed, the phone locked, on silent or in Focus, at your device's ringer volume. Read the details on alarms that ring on silent and the guide to an iPhone alarm that is not going off.
AlarmKit is an iPhone framework. For Android, see the Android alarm app page. Keep the app installed and your phone charged, and test your setup before bed.
