What is Focus mode on iPhone?
Focus mode on iPhone lets you choose who and what can interrupt you. You can use ready-made options such as Do Not Disturb, Sleep or Work, or build a custom one, and turn it on by schedule, location or app. Apple explains the steps in its guide to setting up a Focus.
Many people leave a Sleep or Do Not Disturb Focus on overnight so notifications do not wake them. Focus can also hide the Lock Screen pages or Home Screen pages you do not need, and it can sync across your Apple devices.
Why Focus matters for waking up
The worry is natural: if everything is quiet overnight, will my alarm still ring? The answer depends on how the alarm is made. A notification-based alarm can be held back, while an alarm from the system alarm channel is designed to come through. That is why a Focus is a common suspect when an alarm does not go off.
Our guide to alarms, silent mode and Do Not Disturb walks through what to check. The related framework is AlarmKit.
How AlarmiFex relates
On iPhone, AlarmiFex uses AlarmKit, so once you allow alarms your alarm can ring with Focus on, the app closed or the phone on silent. It plays at your device's ringer volume, so keep that turned up. See rings on silent for the full picture.
No setup is perfect for every phone, so test your alarm with your usual Focus on before you rely on it.
